I moved to Mililani on the Island of Oahu in 2007, where Sandy was living for over 20 years. After her dad’s passing in 2010 we moved back to Honoka’a to be closer to family & begin a new life together.

After Sandy’s battle with Cancer in both 2001 & 2008, then a bone marrow transplant in 2013 we realized how important Ohana (family) was & how life can be so short. As we live with the side effects of her illness, we take one day at a time being happy & appreciating all that we have.

I’ve always had a goal to live & give back to the community that helped me become the person I am. With the help of my family & friends, I opened HAMAKUA LIVING, a general store 2010 making my dream come true. I’m hoping to bring back “the small mom & pop” type shop by providing products/food of quality with an affordable price. The shop carries a variety of favorites including hot dogs with special sauces/toppings like kim chee, local li-hing mui seeds,/snacks, dried fruits, seafood (including dried pocket-knife style Abalone), gummies & homemade ethnic dishes. Serving to-go plate lunches, kaukau pans for larger gatherings (when acceptable), Kalua tubs & of course our own recipe for Laulau’s.

We look forward to seeing you soon, ready to serve you one of our specials or having you enjoy a unique snack or frozen treat.

Mahalo,

Edwin Rapozo III

Our Community

We have been open since 2010 & feel so blessed to be a part of the beautiful Hamakua Coast Community. This business has re-connected us with childhood friends, allowed us to spend more time with family & meet new people.

We look forward to creating Homemade specials “plate lunch” style with a choice of Main Dish, 2 scoops rice & a side. Our offers start with a daily $5.00 special & other plates. Check out our daily menu posted at the shop as well as Facebook or Instagram.

We make traditional Pork Laulau’s using Sandy’s Dad’s “Ronnie” traditional recipe with pork & luau leaves steamed for hours. Using similar techniques, I wanted to create “specialty” Laulaus with unique items, like Pig’s Feet, Oxtail, Chicken w/sweet potato or Fresh Corned Beef with onions or Root Vegetables. All include luau leaves then steaming until tender & delicious. We sell it as“plate lunch” specials or by ordering a bag of 5.

You have to try the “creamy” ice cakes in strawberry, orange, grape and pineapple, as it will remind you of the Old Days, guri guri….yummy! Our Aunty Debbie perfected this recipe & we are happy to share this treat with everyone.

Fundraising for athletes or students is dear to our hearts. We hope to providing snack packs, laulau or gift cards as money makers. If you have any ideas, let us know as we want to help if we can.

The Hamakua Coast is one of the most beautiful places on earth, we are blessed to live & be a part of the community.
